Practice Highlights

  • Direct supervisory responsibility over Sr. HIM Specialists, HIM Specialists, and an HIM Lead
  • Oversees daily HIM operations including medical record processing, retrieval, release, and storage in both electronic and manual systems
  • Manages EMR-related HIM functions; assists with planning, organizing, and supervising implementation and upgrades of all HIM information systems, including integrated system testing and staff training
  • Produces and analyzes daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports — including statistical summaries, productivity metrics, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) — using MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ensures departmental compliance with HIPAA, privacy, information security, and confidentiality standards in alignment with State, Federal, accrediting, and other regulatory requirements
  • Develops, maintains, and revises HIM policies and procedures; makes formal recommendations to HIM Director/Manager on policy updates
  • Conducts monthly staff team meetings at minimum, with ongoing coaching, mentoring, cross-training, and performance management of direct reports
  • Facilitates onboarding and training for new and transfer hires across all department systems, policies, and procedures
  • Analyzes production and workflow in both electronic and manual environments; develops and revises work procedures to increase efficiency and resolve operational problems
  • Travel up to 45% may be required for off-site assignments; valid driver's license and ability to travel to off-site locations required
  • Work environment spans both office and hospital settings at a moderate activity level

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or a closely related field preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory or lead role within HIM preferred
  • Previous experience in a hospital and/or academic hospital or health system environment with an EMR strongly preferred
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential preferred
  • Current working knowledge of HIM and healthcare standards, medical record documentation requirements, and HIM processes within an electronic health record environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint) required; strong analytical, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills essential
