Practice Highlights

  • Fixed night shift schedule: Sunday through Wednesday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. — a predictable four-day block with three consecutive days off
  • Cross-trained across a minimum of two Patient Access service areas, with mandatory competency in the Emergency Department

  • Scheduling support for diagnostic procedures: data entry into scheduling systems, patient appointment instruction, and coordination of post-discharge care
  • Interpretation of physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards in accordance with established standards of care
  • Collaborative interface with internal clinical teams and external clients (physician offices, payors) to ensure accuracy and productivity
  • Hospital administration environment with potential exposure to patient care areas, including life-threatening patient conditions

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
  • 0–1 year of customer service experience required
  • 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance environment, or related field preferred
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC, CRT terminal, and printer operation
  • Working knowledge of third-party payor requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
  • Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance documentation
  • Availability to work hours and days as needed based on departmental and system demands
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; frequent standing, sitting, and walking; occasional wheelchair assistance for patients with mobility limitations
