Practice Highlights
- Night shift schedule: 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM with rotating weekend coverage
- Stationed in the Emergency Department of an acute care hospital — exposure to the full spectrum of ED patient volume and acuity
- Performs complete patient registration at point of service, including demographic capture, insurance verification, benefits and eligibility confirmation, and authorization for both scheduled and unscheduled services
- Executes medical necessity checks and verifications in accordance with CMS requirements; secures inpatient visit notifications to payors
- Manages patient financial liability education and collection — before, during, and after date of service — using compliant negotiation techniques
- Completes hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry per financial and cash control policies
- Obtains and secures all required legal and consent documentation: Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, and EMTALA forms
- Scans and files Protected Health Information; may assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures and coordinating post-discharge care
- Required to perform duties competently across at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
- Interprets physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards in accordance with established standards of care
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
- 0–1 year of customer service experience; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related field preferred
- Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
- Demonstrated working knowledge of PC, CRT terminal, and printer operation
- Familiarity with hospital environment, third-party payor requirements, and compliance standards preferred
- Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance documentation
- Must meet applicable vaccination and health screening requirements prior to start of employment, including COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations as required by law
- Must be available to work hours and days as needed based on departmental and system demands
