The position works bedside and in the field to screen self-pay patients for governmental and non-governmental program eligibility, identify all potential payer sources, and guide patients through the financial assistance application process. It is a hands-on, patient-facing role that requires equal fluency in healthcare finance and compassionate communication.

  • Reasonable accommodations provided for qualified individuals with disabilities
  • E-Verify participating employer with employment practices compliant with all applicable federal, state, and local laws

Practice Highlights

  • Conducts bedside interviews with patients and family members to screen for eligibility across federal, state, county, and non-governmental financial assistance programs
  • Identifies all potential payer sources — including auto insurance, Workers' Compensation, commercial insurance, private insurance, and third-party liability — and routes accounts appropriately within the Patient Accounting environment
  • Obtains and completes Confidential Financial Statement forms; assists patients through the full benefits application process
  • Performs financial clearance functions including collections; prepares accounts for Financial Assistance review and cancels accounts where patient cooperation is absent and no program eligibility exists
  • Follows up on EES-assigned accounts to ensure government applications are processed through to eligibility determination
  • Conducts field visits to patient homes for skip tracing and document assistance
  • Communicates screening determinations and outcomes — verbally and in writing — to hospital case management, social services, and admissions staff
  • Works across multiple hospital facilities and platforms, coordinating with multiple supervisors and departments simultaneously

  • Working familiarity with federal, state, and county program rules and regulations governing patient financial assistance
  • Proficiency in PC systems including Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English; bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred given the patient population served
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize competing tasks, and manage multiple accounts with accuracy and efficiency
  • Detail-oriented with experience navigating multi-facility or multi-platform environments
  • Ability to walk through hospital environments, visit patients at bedside, and travel locally as required
