This Patient Advocate Representative (Bilingual) role is a full-time, hospital-based position in Lauderdale Lakes, FL, embedded within a multi-facility health system that has served more than 135 regional markets across the country for over 30 years. Practice Highlights

  • Conducts bedside interviews with patients and/or family members to screen for eligibility across governmental programs (Medicaid, Medicare, county assistance) and non-governmental programs
  • Identifies all potential payor sources including auto insurance, Workers' Compensation, commercial insurance, private insurance, and third-party liability (TPL) to ensure accurate account routing in the Patient Accounting environment
  • Obtains and completes Confidential Financial Statement forms; guides patients through the benefits application process from initiation to resolution
  • Performs financial clearance functions including collections; prepares accounts for Financial Assistance review and cancels accounts where patient cooperation is absent and no program eligibility exists
  • Follows up on EES-assigned accounts to confirm government applications are progressing; builds ongoing working relationships with patients to accelerate eligibility determinations
  • Conducts field visits to patient homes for skip tracing and document assistance — some travel required
  • Communicates case screening determinations and outcomes to hospital case management, social services, and admissions staff via both verbal and written channels
  • Maintains complete, accurate documentation of all account activity throughout the in-house stay and the full Patient Accounting cycle
  • Works across multiple hospital facilities and platforms, coordinating with multiple supervisors and departments simultaneously
  • Work environment spans both hospital settings (including Emergency Department and patient bedside) and office facilities, with direct patient and staff contact

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in Social Services, Hospital Admitting, or a directly related field
  • Working familiarity with Federal, State, and County program rules and regulations governing patient financial assistance
  • Proficiency in PC systems including Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English; bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize competing tasks, and manage multiple accounts with efficiency and attention to detail
  • Ability to walk through hospital environments including broad campus settings and Emergency Department areas, and to travel for field visits as required
  • Must be able to obtain and provide confirmation of all required vaccinations and screenings (including COVID-19 and influenza) prior to employment start, as applicable and permitted by law
