Practice Highlights
- Bedside screening of self-pay patients for eligibility across a broad range of governmental programs (Medicaid, Medicare, county assistance) and non-governmental programs
- Identification and routing of all potential payor sources including auto insurance, Workers' Compensation, commercial insurance, private insurance, and third-party liability (TPL)
- Completion of Confidential Financial Statement forms and hands-on guidance of patients through the benefits application process
- Direct patient and family interviews conducted both at bedside and, when necessary, via field visits to patient homes for skip tracing and document assistance
- Follow-up on EES-assigned accounts to confirm government program applications are processed through to eligibility determination
- Financial clearance functions including collections activity and preparation of accounts for Financial Assistance review; cancellation of non-cooperative, non-eligible accounts per protocol
- Cross-functional communication with hospital case management, social services, and admissions staff — both verbally and in writing — regarding screening determinations and outcomes
- Work environment spans both hospital floors (including Emergency Department) and office settings, with some travel required for field visits
- Multi-facility scope requiring coordination across multiple hospital platforms and supervisory structures
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in social services, hospital admitting, or a directly related field
- Working familiarity with federal, state, and county program rules and regulations governing patient financial assistance
- Proficiency in PC systems including Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and accounts independently across a complex, multi-facility environment
- Physical ability to walk through hospital campuses, access Emergency Department environments, and conduct bedside patient visits; ability to travel for field visits as required
- Compliance with all required pre-employment vaccinations and health screenings, including COVID-19 and influenza, as applicable and permitted by law
