Baptist Health System in San Antonio, Texas is recruiting a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Resident to join its accredited ACPE program within the Department of Pastoral Care. This residency-level role provides structured, supervised training in professional spiritual care across a large, faith-inspired health system that includes six full-service hospitals, a specialized children's hospital, a comprehensive cancer care network, and a broad ambulatory footprint — all with more than 120 years of community presence. The CPE Resident works toward Level I ACPE outcomes while delivering direct pastoral care to patients, families, and staff of all backgrounds, faiths, and ages.

  • Affiliation with the Baptist School of Health Professions and a system-wide physician network supporting an integrated care environment

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Graduate of an accredited college or university plus at least one year of theological school coursework
  • Preferred: Graduate academic or professional degree from an accredited theological school — Master of Divinity or equivalent
  • Minimum experience: Background ranging from a serious vocational call to ministry through active parish or congregational ministry
  • Preferred experience: Demonstrated potential for Level I and Level II CPE competency; ability to integrate theology with professional and personal clinical relationships
  • Required: Ordination or formal endorsement for ministry by a recognized religious body, and/or meeting the admission requirements of the CPE program
