Practice Highlights

  • Full patient registration at date of service: demographic capture, insurance verification, benefits and eligibility confirmation, and authorization for both scheduled and unscheduled services
  • Completion and execution of all required legal and compliance forms: Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, and EMTALA documentation
  • Medical necessity checks and verification in accordance with CMS guidelines; inpatient visit notification to payors
  • Patient liability education and compliant financial collections before, during, and after date of service; hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry
  • Scanning and filing of Protected Health Information; creation of patient information packets for upcoming services
  • Assistance with scheduling diagnostic procedures and coordinating post-discharge care as needed
  • Cross-functional coverage required in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
  • Collaboration with internal clinical teams and external clients (physician offices, payors) to maintain accuracy and productivity
  • Interpretation of physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards in accordance with established standards of care

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
  • 0–1 year of customer service experience; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related field preferred
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC, CRT terminal, and printer
  • Working knowledge of third-party payor requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
  • Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance documentation
  • Ability to work in high-volume, fast-paced conditions including exposure to uncooperative patients and life-threatening patient situations
  • Physical requirements include extended periods of sitting at a computer terminal, frequent standing and walking, occasional lifting up to 25 lbs., and occasional wheelchair assistance for patients
