Practice Highlights

  • Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM with rotating weekend coverage
  • Cross-functional role covering at least two Patient Access service areas, with required competency in the Emergency Department
  • Full patient registration at point of service: demographic capture, insurance verification, benefits and eligibility confirmation, and authorization procurement for both scheduled and unscheduled hospital services

  • Medical necessity checks and verification in accordance with CMS guidelines; inpatient visit notification to payors
  • Patient liability education and compliant point-of-service, pre-service, and post-service collections using proper negotiation techniques; hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry
  • Scheduling support for diagnostic procedures: data entry into scheduling system, patient appointment instruction, and coordination of post-discharge care
  • Scanning and management of Protected Health Information (PHI); creation and filing of patient information packets for upcoming services
  • Collaborative interface with physician offices, internal clinical teams, and external insurance payors to resolve registration and financial clearance issues
  • Exposure to high patient volumes and acute care conditions, including potential life-threatening patient situations in patient care locations

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
  • 0–1 year of customer service experience; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related field preferred
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC, CRT terminal, and printer operation
  • Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards accurately
  • Working knowledge of third-party payor requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
  • Ability to perform essential duties across at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
  • Availability to work hours and days as needed based on departmental and system demands, including nights and rotating weekends
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; occasional wheelchair assistance for patients with mobility needs
