Practice Highlights

- Must be proficient in at least three Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
- Leads shift-level Patient Access operations and serves as a point of collaboration for department leaders on process and operational excellence
- Performs full patient registration at date of service, including pre-admission, admission, reception, and discharge functions
- Completes thorough insurance verification, benefits and eligibility checks, prior authorizations for scheduled and unscheduled services, and inpatient visit notifications to payors
- Executes medical necessity checks and verification in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) standards
- Provides comprehensive patient financial counseling, education, and referrals; manages patient liability collections before, during, and after date of service using compliant collection techniques
- Performs hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry in adherence to financial and cash control policies
- Conducts thorough analysis of Admission-Discharge-Transfer (ADT) data and Revenue Cycle Reports
- Secures and explains all required legal and regulatory forms: Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA, and related documents
- Scans and manages Protected Health Information (PHI); creates and files patient information packets for upcoming services
- May assist with scheduling diagnostic or surgical procedures and conducting physician office and patient interviews
- Works within a hospital administration environment with potential exposure to patient care areas, including life-threatening patient conditions
- Resolves physician office and patient issues; manages high patient volumes and complex patient interactions
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
- 2–4 years of experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or closely related field required
- 2 or more years of direct Patient Access experience preferred
- Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
- Demonstrated proficiency with PC-based software systems and hospital information technology
- Advanced understanding of third-party payor requirements and compliance standards preferred
- Advanced patient liability collection skills with demonstrated productivity and achievement
- Strong negotiation skills for professional patient/guarantor collections
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external clients to drive communication accuracy and productivity
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and communicate detailed information effectively in both oral and written formats
- Must meet applicable vaccination and pre-employment screening requirements prior to start date
