Doctors Medical Center of Modesto is recruiting a full-time Neurosurgery Nurse Navigator (NP) to join its neurosurgery service line in Modesto, California. This role sits at the intersection of advanced clinical practice and surgical assistance — functioning as a first or second assist in the OR while managing the full continuum of pre- and post-operative neurosurgery patient care. DMC is the largest full-service acute care hospital between Stockton and Fresno, offering a high-acuity, subspecialty-rich environment with 394 acute care beds and a 67-bed inpatient psychiatric unit. The position reports to the Lead Physician Assistant and the Chief Executive Officer and operates under the supervision of the attending neurosurgeon.

Practice Highlights

  • Multidisciplinary care planning in collaboration with nursing, medical staff, and ancillary teams; serves as surgeon liaison with patients, families, and the broader care team
  • Advanced clinical procedures performed with and without direct supervision (select procedures require proctoring and formal privilege granting prior to independent performance)
  • Broad patient population spanning infants through geriatric (age-specific care protocols required across all age groups)
  • Rotating schedule with exposure to emergency and crisis situations; irregular hours are part of the role
  • Service lines on campus include cardiology, orthopedics, emergency and trauma, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, women's and children's services, oncology, behavioral health, and critical/intensive care
  • Participates in quality assessment, continuous quality improvement, and performance improvement activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred
  • 1–2 years of clinical experience preferred; neurosurgery or surgical NP background is advantageous
  • Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required
  • Ability to function as first or second surgical assistant in the OR
  • Physical capacity to stand/walk for extended periods, lift and position up to 50 lbs, and push/pull up to 50 lbs of force; manual dexterity and ability to move quickly are essential
  • Sufficient visual and auditory acuity to perform all position duties safely and accurately
