Practice Highlights
- Advanced HIM role with supervisory responsibilities — includes interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, and employee relations
- Document imaging functions: prepping, scanning, quality review, validation, and indexing into the Document Management Solution/EMR
- Electronic health record navigation is central to daily workflow; proficiency in EHR systems required
- Document chart analysis: review medical records for completion, assign and reassign provider deficiencies in accordance with regulatory guidelines and facility timely-completion policy
- Support for missing documentation and provider queries as needed
- Vital statistics duties: completion of birth and/or death certificates in accordance with Alabama state law, including direct contact with families within facility-specific timeframes
- Chart pickup (rounding), reconciliation, and record retrieval
- Data integrity functions: chart correction, duplicate medical record resolution, and related assignments
- Productivity monitoring: incumbents maintain and report metrics tied to document imaging and document analysis output
- Coordination with internal departments and outside agencies on patient record requests, with appropriate prioritization
- Paper-based record scanning and upload into VitalChart ChartFlow (formerly EvriChart) for remote coding access
- Fast-paced, indoor environment requiring sustained mental concentration and the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities
Qualifications
- Minimum education: High School diploma or equivalent required
- Preferred: two or more years of experience in a hospital Health Information Management department
- Preferred credential: RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and keyboard/mouse operation required
- Working knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security regulations as applied to patient health information
- Familiarity with vital statistics processes (birth certificate completion, paternity acknowledgement) a plus
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds; ability to sit for extended periods
- Confirmation of required vaccinations and screenings (including COVID-19 and influenza) required prior to start of employment, as applicable and permitted by law
