Practice Highlights
- Patient-facing role with direct responsibility for meal tray assembly, delivery, and accuracy across inpatient units
- Assists patients with meal selections and communicates individualized dietary needs to the diet office
- Maintains awareness of and adherence to specialized therapeutic diets for the inpatient population
- Performs light food preparation: chopping, slicing, and peeling for special-order items
- Ensures all trays meet temperature and appearance standards before delivery
- Manages host carts including proper labeling, dating, and rotation of all patient food items
- Transports meal carts and food supplies between units and departments as needed
- Operates, cleans, and sanitizes dishes and dietary equipment; maintains cleanliness of department areas and nourishment rooms/refrigerators
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities and adheres to all applicable local, state, and federal food safety regulations
- Part of a health system with more than 120 years of community service, including six full-service hospitals, a specialized children's hospital with a dedicated pediatric emergency unit, imaging centers, and ambulatory services
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum one year of food service and/or customer service experience
- Required certification: ANSI Accredited Texas Food Handler certification, ANSI Accredited Food Manager course completion, or Certified Food Manager credential from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District
- Ability to complete established competencies for the position within the designated introductory period
